"Bella Tulip Garden"

Many congratulations to Janna Bailey, the winner of this year's beautiful opportunity quilt, "Bella Tulip Garden". The quilt is pieced, appliqued and quilted by guild members. Bright, jewel-toned batiks make this quilt absolutly breathtaking. The quilt is hand-quilted in 100% silk thread.

Following is the note she wrote to us about winning this gorgeous quilt:

Dear Members of the Piecemakers,

Last night I received a phone call from your Kim Gillilan. To my great surprise, she told me I had won your beautiful opportunity quilt! Kim also invited me to your December 5th guild meeting to receive the quilt. Unfortunately, we have moved our guild's (Diablo Valley Quilters) meeting to that night because of the holidays. December is the last month that I will be president of our guild, otherwise I would have gladly excepted her invitation.

If you are like our members, I'm sure you are glad that you beautiful quilt is going to someone that appreciates all the work and love that went into making it. I thought I'd share a little about myself so that you would know with whom your quilt would be living. I started quilting in the seventies, though didn't really get "into" it until about 10 years ago. I prefer hand quilting, but with a busy schedule,have begun to do more machine quilting. Last August I began commuting to San Francisco from Walnut Creek; so am now doing more applique work. I've been a member of Diablo Valley Quilters since 1994 and President for the past 2 years.

My winning ticket was purchased at the Pacific International Quilt Festival. My friend and I had a nice chat with the ladies manning your ticket sales. We had our Opportunity Quilt there also. We were at the opposite corner; the bright Mariner's Compass.

Please know that your quilt will have a place on honor in my home. I have an 1890's bed in my guest room. Your quilt will make the room very special.

Thanks to all of you that worked on the quilt. I am looking forward to meeting some of you.
