Community Quilts

Each year, Piecemakers Quilt Guild members make and donate over 150 quilts.

About Community Quilts

One of the most rewarding Guild activities is our Community Quilts project. Each year, Piecemakers Quilt Guild members make and donate over 150 quilts! This is our primary public service project. Quilts are donated to many community organizations, including local police and fire departments, shelters, seniors, organizations aiding the homeless, local hospitals, and others.

Twice each year, in July and December, community organizations that benefit from our quilts come to our Guild membership meetings. As a guild, we learn a little more about each organization, how our quilts help them, and sometimes hear a story about specific people who have received a lovingly made quilt that we donated. These meetings also include a parade of quilts, where the quilts going to each organization are paraded through the meeting space so that everyone can admire the artistry and care that went into making them.

How You Can Help

Of course, donating quilt tops and finished quilts is always helpful. There are other ways to participate, too:

  • Collect and sort donated fabric and batting

  • Plan activities for guild members

  • Prepare kits for guild members to complete at home

  • Organize and prepare quilt tops for tying or quilting

  • Attach bindings and labels

Remember: "Many hands make light work". If you'd like to help with any of these activities, please contact us and ask to be connected with the Community Quilts committee.
